About the CIDM Department

The Computer Information Decision Management (CIDM) Department, one of three departments in the College of Business at West Texas A&M University, focuses on examining the relationships between computing, information technology, and business. Through applied research and teaching, the Department creates a deeper understanding of the role of technology in business. The CIDM department offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) with two tracks: traditional CIS and Decision Management; the Master of Business Administration (MBA) has an emphasis in CIS.  The Department offers courses in business quantitative methods, statistics, project management, decision support, and supply chain management. The Department is comprised of eight full-time faculty that have a rich blend of teaching, research, and industry expertise. It is the department’s goal to provide strong and solid preparation for its students to assume leadership roles in technological organizations and for challenging careers in the field of computing. The department strives to create learning-centered environments that foster the acquisition of essential skills that promote an interest for personal and professional growth in its students. In line with the University’s strategies to seek the highest level of accreditation that is deemed appropriate for all programs that have accrediting bodies by 2011, the department has made a commitment to pursue ABET accreditation, the largest academic accreditation body for computing and engineering programs.

The CIDM department (formerly CIS) and its major in Computer Information Systems in the College of Business was established and approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on October 10, 1969. The degree for those students who satisfactory complete program requirements is the Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems.
