“In May 2011 the College of Business at West Texas A & M University will offer a faculty-led study abroad opportunity to the Øresund region of Scandinavia.  This area is better known as the transnational region comprised of Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden.  This trip will be led by Dr. Jeffry Babb and Dr. De’Arno De’Armond and wil focus on how IT-driven entrepreneurship and innovation is possible in a region of the world that has historically embraced Social Democracy.  The course will be offered for both undergraduates and graduates via the stacked courses of ECON 4301 / ECON 5301.

This trip to the heart of Scandinavia will involve 10 to 20 students and two faculty and is slated for the May 2011 intersession.  While in Denmark, our studies will be hosted and faciliated by the School of Entrepreneurship and the Department of IT Management at the Copenhagen Business School, which is a top-ranking institution in Europe.  Educational highlights of the trip will include a tour of the Microsoft Development Center in Copenhagen, interactions with professionals at Danske Bank, and hands-on sessions with Copenhagen Capacity and the School of Entrepreneurship.  We will also interact with several small and medium-sized businesses in order to understand how IT-fueled innovation is thriving in this part of the world.

We will also have fun in Scandinavia with trips to: Tivoli, which is the world’s second oldest amusement park; Malmö, Sweden in the Scania region of Sweden; The original Legoland theme park in Billund, Denmark; and various sight-seeing trips in the Øresund region.

In all, students will find out why this part of the world consistently ranks highly in measures of well-being, research, innovation, and as a good environment for business.  Students interested in this study abroad trip to Denmark and Sweden are encouraged to contact Dr. Babb (jbabb@wtamu.edu) or Dr. De’Armond (ddearmond@wtamu.edu) for more information.  Please also visit the website: http://www.wtatdk.com.”
